Terms & Conditions

  1. National Grid takes safety very seriously. Photographers must ensure they consider their safety and must not endanger themselves or others in obtaining their photograph.
  2. This competition is open to all amateur photographers and designed to celebrate the former gasworks on Thomas Street in Stretford.
  3. It is open to new and original photographs (entries must not have been previously submitted to any other photography competition or published).
  4. Entries are invited in two categories:
    • Stretford’s Gasholders from Afar (a photograph of the Thomas Street gasholders in their setting, taken from a distance, at any angle. All photographs must be taken from outside the site, beyond the red line in the plan below.)
    • Stretford – Your Community (a photograph of Stretford that reflects the town and its community.)
  5. There are junior and adult entries in both categories.
  6. The junior entries in both categories are open to all those aged 17 years and under. Those eligible to this category must be 17 years old or under on 28 February 2019.
  7. Junior entrants must provide parent or legal guardian consent to enter.
  8. The adult entries in both categories are open to all those aged 18 years and over on 28 February 2019.
  9. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
    • Best photograph in the ‘Stretford’s Gasholders from Afar’ category – Junior Entry
    • Best photograph in the ‘Stretford’s Gasholders from Afar’ category – Adult Entry
    • Best photograph in the ‘Stretford – Your Community’ category – Junior Entry
    • Best photograph in the ‘Stretford – Your Community’ category – Adult Entry
  10. All prizes will be in the form of vouchers (not cash).
  11. The closing date for the competition is midnight on 28 February 2019.
  12. Winners will be announced in April 2019 and invited to attend a prize-giving event being held at a location to be announced near the time.
  13. Winners will be notified in advance and agree not to disclose any details until these have been made public by the Competition Organiser.
  14. In the event that a winner cannot be contacted or does not reply to the Competition Organiser confirming acceptance of the prize within 5 days of being notified, another winner may be selected.
  15. Entry to the competition is achieved by the Competition Organiser’s successful receipt of both the submitted photograph and a completed Entry Form – both need to be successfully received to fulfil the requirements for entry.
  16. Photographers may make minor digital enhancements to their images.
  17. Entries must be the original work of the entrants and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered.
  18. The Competition Organiser reserves the right to reject any photograph which may reasonably be considered to have been taken without the consent of any identifiable living individual in the image.
  19. For any photos appearing to feature any identifiable person, the Competition Organiser will require prior permission to have been obtained from them or their parents or guardians. If such a photo is selected as a potential winner, written proof will be required. In the event that such proof is not provided within such deadline stipulated by the Competition Organiser, the photograph will be removed from consideration.
  20. Access onto the Thomas Street Gasholder Site is strictly forbidden for safety reasons and any photos appearing to be taken on or within the red competition boundary line on the map below will be disqualified.
  21. Entries will be judged by a panel of judges including representatives from National Grid.  The judges’ decision will be final.  No correspondence will be entered into or reasoning required in order to substantiate the judges’ decision.
  22. In consideration of entering your photograph, you grant to the Competition Organiser the non-exclusive right to publish or reproduce your photo/s for any purpose at any time in any media with attribution by way of photographer’s full name, without any payment of fee. The entrant will retain the copyright of the photo entered for the competition.
  23. Entries may be shared on the competition website – www.stretfordgasworksphoto.co.uk and the competition’s associated social media.
  24. The winners by entering the competition and by receipt of a prize, consent to the use of their photo, full name and/or personal photograph and town of residence in any publicity carried out by the Competition Organiser, without further compensation.
  25. The Competition Organiser reserves the right to cancel this competition at any time.
  26. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that they have read and will abide by the Ts&Cs (as described here).  By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to the Ts&Cs, and their entry complies with the Ts&Cs, and that they will be liable to the Competition Organiser should a breach of the Ts&Cs be incurred by the entrant.
  27. The Prize won by the Junior Entrants (being under the age of 18 years) will be passed to their named parent or guardian.
  28. All entrants must act in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and any entrant found to disregard the law will be disqualified.
  29. The competition is open to digital/e-mailed entries only. Maximum file size for each photograph is 20MB.
  30. Entrants are permitted to submit a maximum of three photographs (a separate Entry Form is required for each submitted photograph as detailed on the Entry Form).
  31. The competition is being organised and run by JBP Associates (herein referred to as ‘The Competition Organiser’) working on behalf of National Grid. JBP Associates Ltd registered office: 34 Smith Square, Westminster, London SW1P 3HL.
  32. The competition is not open to employees of National Grid, KDC or JBP Associates.
  33. The competition is not open to professional photographers.

  1. Proof of electronic submission is not proof of receipt by the Competition Organiser.
  2. The Competition Organiser cannot be held responsible for emails that do not arrive due to an entrant’s security settings or restrictions placed by their Internet Service Provider.
  3. The Competition Organiser does not accept liability for the misuse of images by a third party.
  4. The Competition Organiser does not accept any liability for the publication of unlawfully reproduced images.
  5. National Grid are not liable for any actions that the photographers may take in obtaining photographs for the competition.

Data Privacy notice

  1. The Competition Organiser will manage the personal data of entrants in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998 and General Data Protection Regulations in force from 25th May 2018.
  2. The information collected on each entrant will be only that included on the entry form and shall be processed on the basis of the Consent given by the Entry Form.  Consent may be withdrawn at any time by the entrant and data shall be deleted by the Competition Organiser.  The data of winning entrants shall be processed in order to fulfil the terms of the agreement to use the image as set out above and retained in order to comply with the agreement to use the photograph.  We will keep your data within JBP Associates and National Grid and it will not be shared with any other third party.  Personal data is retained and held in a secure environment and only processed within the UK.
  3. Entrants may contact the Competition Organiser (the data processor) at any time to update their details and / or preferences regarding permitted use of their personal data.
  4. Data of non-winning entrants shall be deleted within 6 months of the end of the competition. If the Competition Organiser wishes to retain your photo/s beyond this date you will be notified, and your photos and details will be kept for longer.
